Sally Wood Obituary

Sally P. Wood, 86, of Findlay, passed away at 11:10 P.M. on Wednesday October 6, 2021 at Birchaven Village. She was born on December 24, 1934 in Newbury, Massachusetts to the late Otis E. and Bessie (Manchester) Curtis. On April 3, 1955, she married the love of her life, Leon C. Wood and he survives.Sally is also survived by children: Linda (Larry) Hamilton of Jeffersonville, Ohio; Laura (Lynn) Mercer of Findlay, Ohio; Donna Wood of Gahanna, Ohio and Russell (Ruth) Wood of Camden, Michigan. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Mark and Stephen Hamilton, Ben (Riley) Mercer, Jake (Sarah) Mercer, Colin Mercer, David Kelley, Julia (Brandon) Houpt, Nathan and Ellen Wood. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Maverick, Maddox, Maksim and Malaki Mercer (and new baby due in December) and Lily and Ella Mercer. Her brother, Robert Curtis of Clermont, Florida, and sister, Janis Bailey of Haverhill Massachusetts, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Louisa, and grandson Edward Hamilton. Sally loved her family very much and was very proud of all of them.In 1956, Sally and Leon moved to Findlay, Ohio when he began working for Marathon Oil Company. Sally was an LPN at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She also worked at Findlay's Kodak Processing Plant. She was an active member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and formerly at Howard United Methodist Church in Findlay. Sally never met a person who didn't become a friend, and did everything she could to show love to others and make them feel welcomed and special. Sally was very talented and giving of her time and talents. She loved baking and would rarely go anywhere to visit, or allow someone into her home, without giving them a plate of home baked goodies. Her cookies, cakes and bread were second to none! Sally was also an accomplished musician and played the piano at church and for recitals. She especially enjoyed playing amazing duets with her friend, Glenna Dennis. She also enjoyed playing in the bell choir at her church. Sally also was an incredible seamstress. She not only made wedding dresses, but made and donated hundreds of school bags to the church. She also made numerous baby blankets and knitted and crocheted afghans, hotpads, washcloths, mittens and scarves to keep those she loved warm and toasty. Sally was generous with donating her time and talents, was a dedicated friend, and will be remembered and greatly missed by many. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 3:00PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 218 East Sandusky Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840, with Pastor Richard Purvis officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00-3:00PM Monday at the church. The family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask. Internment will be private at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sally's name are suggested to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, City Mission, 510 W.
