Robert D. “Bob” Maas, 88, of Findlay, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at 8:52 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Bob was born in Kentucky on March 14, 1936 to the late Cecil and Ruth E. (Wiggins) Maas, and grew up in Deshler, Ohio.
On March 8, 1957, he married Ruth Vandersall in the McComb Church of Christ, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Mark A. (Noreen) Maas of Findlay; four grandchildren, Justin C. (Jacey) Maas, Clayton E. (Leah) Maas, Christy A. (Matthew) Cramner of Findlay and Heather M. (Jamey) Gorman of Knoxville, Tennessee; twelve great-grandchildren, and a special daughter-in-law, Cindy Hauenstein. He was preceded in death by a son, R. Dan Maas in 2001, and a brother, Homer “Til” Maas.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Panama in 1950s. When he returned home, Bob started with Findlay Sundry Sales, which he operated for 25 years. Then, he and his wife, Ruth, founded Things ‘n Pills, a beloved Hallmark gift store. Bob later became involved in commercial real estate with CB Richard Ellis until his retirement.
Bob was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, was active in the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved The Ohio State Buckeyes so much that he was known to friends as “Buckeye Bob”.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, located at 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840. The funeral service will directly follow at 3:00 p.m., officiated by friend of the family, Rob Breitigam. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Portage Township, Hancock County, with military rites by the Hancock Veterans Memorial Squad.
