Robert Chesebro Obituary

Robert M. Chesebro, age 90, passed away at his home in the early hours of Tuesday, May 18, 2021. He was peacefully surrounded by his family. Bob was born on June 12, 1930 in Findlay, Ohio, the son of H. Joseph and Frances (Montgomery) Chesebro. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kay (Bell), daughters Susie, Sally (Kent) Mathews, Meg (Eric, deceased) Ramlow, and Barbie (Jeff) Corbin. Bob was known as "Cheese" to many friends, and to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Wayne (Carrie) Mathews, Joe (Melida) Mathews, Kacy (Jason) Kurek, Shauni (Keith) Gelfand, Kevin Davis, Kyle (Kymberly) Corbin, and Molly (Collin) Fenimore. His life was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren: Hugh and Harry Mathews, Cecelia and Sam Mathews, Annie and JJ Kurek, Elliott and Will Gelfand, Mackenzie Davis and Monti and Corbin Fenimore. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Margie Bell (Quentin Wood), nephew Tim (Sue) Bell and great-nephews Steve (Heather, Brooks) and Nick Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Gus Lonsway, great-granddaughter Lilah Mathews, his brother-in-law Hugh Bell, and niece Ann Bell.As a child, Bob spent every day outside in Findlay, Ohio playing with his friend Frank Mowry and other lifelong friends. He sang in the Episcopal Boys Choir. He attended Findlay High School for 3 years where he played basketball from 1946-47, was cast in the Operetta 2 years, was the Hi-Y Club president, and student council president.After high school, he attended University of Michigan where he was involved in the Michigan Union Opera Cast for 2 years, was president of the Mimes of the Michigan Union, Scabbard and Blade Military Honorary, was president of the Theta Xi Fraternity, and a member of Druids Senior Men's Honorary.Bob served his country in the 101st Airborne, where he was a First Lieutenant, Company Commander, Weapons Instructor and Parade Adjutant.He worked as secretary/treasurer for the M&B Asphalt Company. He was director of the Tri-County National Bank, Society Bank of NW Ohio.Memberships included Fremont Eagles, Findlay Power Squadron for 40 years, American Legion since he was 5 years old (his father was a commander), Elks Club for 70 years, Sandusky Yacht Club and Findlay Country Club.He was involved with Camp Fire Girls as a Chairman of the Camping Committee, Skating Party Co-chair with Kay for 16 years, Honorary Co-chair with Kay, 2018, On Behalf of Youth. He also volunteered at the YMCA and Westmoor as a swim team starter and official.Boy Scouts was a big part of Bob's life. He was a member for 78 years and served as Patrol Leader, Council Commissioner, Chairman of Finance, and Chairman of Endowment; served on the Executive Board, Executive Committee; served as Council President and President of Berry Trust; He was awarded Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver Award, and received the National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award this year.He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Findlay, where he was involved in the Stewardship and Finance Committee, co-chair of Stewardship, a Deacon, Elder, President of Trustees, and Investment Advisory Committee.A memorial service will be held, as Cheese wished, on his birthday, Saturday, June 12, 2021. Visitation will begin at noon at First Presbyterian Church with a memorial service starting at 1 p.m. Interment at the church will follow.The family is very grateful for the care Bob received and would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark Fox, Dr. Sharon Cole, and Dr. Vincent McGinniss.
