Richard Lodge Obituary

Richard Eugene Lodge went to spend eternity with his Heavenly Father Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Vancrest of Ada, Ohio. “Dick” was born September 11, 1933 in Belle Vernon, Wyandot County, Ohio to Howard T. and Leona M. (McLaughlin) Lodge. Dick was the valedictorian of his class at Middle Point High School. As a paperboy, he saved enough money to pay his way through International Business college at Fort Wayne, Indiana. After graduation at IBC, he went to work at Ohio Oil. He served his country with the U.S. Army. While in Germany, he toured Europe believing Rome his favorite experience. He returned to Marathon Oil where he spent 39 years before retiring as an advanced senior programmer. He also graduated from the University of Findlay.

               As sports were his favorite hobby, during the summers he coached Little League, played baseball and served as an umpire. In winter months, he played basketball and also served as a referee.

               Dick is father of a daughter, Dawn Lodge Golden of Colorado, sons Greg (Kathy) Lodge of Bowling Green, Ohio and Brad (Monica) Lodge of Naperville, Illinois.

               In 1983, he married Sharon Marshall. The family includes granddaughters, Arica (Mike) Lodge-Hoge, Arin (Lee) Lodge-Marquette. Grandson Calvin Lodge, granddaughters Abigail and Sophia Lodge. Step son Tony (Gail) Marshall. Step granddaughters, Niki (Jason) Marshall-Foreman, Brianne Spallinger, Haley (Matt) Marshall-Reed and grandsons, Ryan and Logan Marshall and Hayden Marshall. Great grandchildren Liam and Asher Hoge, Wesley and Decker Marquette, step grandchildren Cooper and Noelle Foreman, Royce and Jaycee Spallinger, Emma and Teddy Reed.

               Besides his parents a brother James A. Lodge and a step son Ed Marshall preceded him in death.

               After retiring in 1992, Dick became interested in genealogy and received an award for First Families of Ohio from the Ohio Historical Society. Many books of family history have been written, reunions attended and new friends made. Dick served as past president of the Zenobia Shrine Clowns, past member of the Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and Hardin County Historical Society. He is a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and served on the board, financial secretary and chairman for the committee for youth going to further their education.

               Calling hours for family and friends will be 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home. Rev. R.E. Purvis will lead a Celebration of Life at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio, at 1:00pm on Friday, October 21, 2022.  Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery in Kenton, Ohio.
