Paul Phillip Helms

Paul Phillip Helms, age 81, of Findlay, passed away at 8:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center. Paul was born on February 4, 1940 in Hancock County, Ohio to the late Ivan L. and Sarah Mabel (Grogg) Helms.Paul married Sheila Jean Simon on June 30, 1961 and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Paul Jeffery (Demi) Helms of McComb, Ohio, Kristine Metzker of Findlay, Ohio, and Denise (Michael) DeVore of Findlay, Ohio; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne Helms, Jerry Helms, Ivan E. "Gene" Helms, Rowena Parish, RoseIla June Helms, and Donna Williams.Paul graduated from Cory Rawson in 1958 and from the Findlay College in 1962 where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Math and Physics. Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1962-1967 and was discharged as a Captain. He worked at Whirlpool in Findlay starting in 1967 as a statistical analyst. In 1969 he became a cost improvement administrator, then in 1976 worked as an industrial engineer. In 1991 he retired from Whirlpool as a non-production buyer.Paul was a member of First Baptist Church. He and his wife Sheila played couples golf for many years at McComb Shady Acres. He bowled in the Whirlpool Mixed Doubles League, which he founded in 1971 and was the groups bowling secretary for 27 years.Visitation for Paul will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840. There will also be an hour of visitation from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral at the church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, 1635 Fostoria Avenue, Findlay, with Pastor Mike Maskell and Rev. David Clark officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad at the conclusion of the service.
