Nancy Kirkwood Obituary

Nancy Ann Kirkwood, 71, of Findlay, Ohio died peacefully on March 6th, 2024. She is preceded in death her parents William and Margaret Lance and her brother Bill (Tanya) Lance. She is survived by her husband John Kirkwood, sons; Jake (Laura) Kirkwood and Ben (Brit) Kirkwood, grandchildren Riley, Jackson, Madison, Nora, and Reagan, in addition to her brother Keith (Lynn) Lance. She also leaves behind her beloved dog and companion, Bruzer, as well as many close friends and family.

Nancy was born to William and Margaret on March 13, 1952 in Wadsworth, Ohio. In 1975 at what was then, Doctors Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, she met the man who would become her husband, John. They were married on December 3, 1976. Together they had two sons, Jake and Ben. From Jake and Ben they were blessed with five grandchildren.

Nancy worked many jobs throughout her career; working in doctors offices, labs, schools, and even did a short stint as the PTA president for her sons’ school. Though, her most important job was being a mother and a military wife. She took great pride in the large part she had raising her sons into the men they have become while John served in The United States Army. She encouraged her boys to explore their different interests, to learn and spread their wings, while also managing to keep them grounded.

Nancy had a wonderful sense of humor and always loved a good joke. If you have known her, you can picture the face that she made as she delivered a punchline. Where other grandmas may shy away from some forms of humor, she always found her 11 year old grandson’s jokes the funniest. She enjoyed sleepovers with her eldest granddaughter and catching up on anything new in her life. For the youngest three granddaughters she provided the love, support, and snuggles that they always wanted. As soon as they walked in the door she was telling them “come give grandma a hug.”

Nancy was a very talented quilter and enjoyed making beautiful quilts for her loved ones. She was a longtime member of the Ohio Star Quilters Guild. She found great joy in going to meetings and retreats with her fellow quilters where she reported that they laughed, gossiped, and sometimes quilted.

Nancy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to K9’s for Warriors in Nancy’s honor.
