Michael Thomas Shaffer

Michael "Mike" Thomas Shaffer, 77, of Findlay, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 28, 2022 in Findlay.Mike was born in Ashland, Ohio on July 11, 1944, to the late Berlin and Dorothy (Sharp) Shaffer. He married Karma Joseph on September 7, 1973 and they divorced. He later married Annette Kellogg on November 1, 1987 and she survives.Mike is also survived by his daughter, Kirsten (Brian Mogan) Shaffer of Chicago, Illinois; and grandsons, Finnian and Ahren; sister, Barbara (Larry) Jacobs of Ashland, Ohio; and nephews Jeff, Jim (Joanne) and John; sister-in-law, Cynthia Kellogg of Valencia, California; sister-in-law Debbie (Alan) Shoop of McComb, Ohio; and nephew, Chas and niece, Alexis along with his mother-in-law, Bonnie Maas of Findlay, and Friend/"Brother," Dr. Bruce Heck.Mike graduated from Ashland High School followed by Bowling Green State and Ohio Northern universities. He became a licensed Pharmacist in 1979.He worked at a number of pharmacies in Findlay including Brookside, Revco, Lanes, Peoples and The Pharm. He also worked at San-Mar Pharmacy and ICP in Tiffin, Ohio. Following his retirement from pharmacy, Mike managed the Apple-A-Day store in Findlay.Mike served in the U.S. Army from August 9, 1965 to August 8, 1968 and was discharged with a rank of Sergeant/Spec5.He beat malignant melanoma in 1979 despite being told his cancer was terminal. Following his cancer treatment, he went on to serve on the Board of Cancer Patient Services and facilitated "I Can Cope" programs thru the American Cancer Society.He earned his 1st degree Black Belt in Taekwon-Do on April 21, 1990.Mike spent a lot of time on Lake Erie boating and fishing. He loved to go on annual trips with his family to the Bahamas and made his last trip this past January. He also enjoyed brewing his own beer and watching the Cleveland Indians play. Mike was a wealth of information and had a very witty sense of humor.Family and friends can join together to celebrate Mike's life at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840 during visitation hours on Friday, March 11, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, from 10-11 a.m. with a service at 11:00 officiated by Pastor Darrell Ramsey.Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Patient Services; 1800 N.
