Marion E. Kroetz, 90 of Findlay, passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Sunrise Senior Living of Findlay, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 11, 1932 in Fort Seneca, Ohio to the late Fred and Grace (Miller) Kroetz. On January 7, 1956, he married Lucille Depinet and she preceded him in death on June 25, 2010.
Surviving are children, Mike (Cheryl) Kroetz of Williamstown, Kentucky, Tim (Beth) Kroetz of Findlay, daughter-in-law, Cindy Kroetz of Findlay; Deanna Kroetz (Jeff Silverman) of Burlingame, California; Karen (Eric) McPherson of Redington Beach, Florida; and Laura (Don) Daniels of Galloway, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Doug Kroetz, and a brother Dr. Frank (Rose) Kroetz formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
Marion graduated from Old Fort High School in 1950. After graduation from The Ohio State University in 1954, he was the 4-H extension agent in Pickaway County. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery in 1955 and 1956, leaving the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He returned to Pickaway County as 4-H agent and then transferred to Hancock County in 1957. He was also the agricultural extension agent, area extension agronomist, district agronomist, and supervisor for 19 northwest Ohio counties. As the area extension agronomist, he produced and hosted a 13-week series for eleven years on WBGU-TV known as “The Crop Game.” He earned the rank of Professor at The Ohio State University through his teaching and research work as an agronomist and received the distinguished service award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. He worked part-time for Stacy Insurance for ten years after his retirement.
Marion was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. He was a member of the Leo Council 957 Knights of Columbus, a 4th degree member of Pope Leo XIII Assembly Knights of Columbus, served as a past Grand Knight and past Navigator. He was also a past president of the Findlay Jaycees, a member of the Senate Club and a member of the Holy Name Society.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio with a rosary at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 617 West Main Cross Street, Findlay, with Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, with military rites by the Hancock Veterans Memorial Squad.
Marion’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Sunrise Senior Living and Bridge Hospice for the loving care provided to Marion during his final years.
