Joseph Charles “Chuck” Sear, Jr., 80, of Findlay, passed away at his residence on Friday, October 25, 2024. He was born on October 31, 1943, in Barberton, Ohio, to the late Joseph C. and Genevieve (Rody) Sear, Sr. He married his wife, Marilyn (Burnley) on September 19, 1970, and she survives in Findlay.
Chuck is also survived by his three daughters: Cynthia Lynn Sear, Kathryn Michelle (Kyle) Pflugbeil, and Jacqueline Marie (Ryan) Hake; grandchildren: Lauren and Alex Pflugbeil, and Sawyer, Adelyn and Harper Hake: sisters; Connie (Bob - deceased) Harrison, and Mary (Pat) DeShane; brother-in-law: John W. Burnley; sister-in-law: Barbara Elbon: many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Chuck graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio in 1961. He attended The University of Akron, earning a bachelor degree in Marketing. While at Akron University he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and participated in ROTC. Chuck proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a First Lieutenant. He worked for Cooper Tire for 36 years, retiring in May of 2006, as a traffic manager.
He was a devoted long-time member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay, Ohio, where he served on many committees and boards. He was a 51 year member of the Findlay Knights of Columbus, Council 957, where he served as the Financial Secretary for 18 years, a past Grand Knight, Knight of the Year, and most notably as a member of the 4th Degree. Among other honors, Chuck was named Veteran of the Year by the governor of Ohio in 2014. He was also a committed member of the Findlay community giving of his time and efforts through various committees, clubs, and organizations throughout the city. Chuck greatly enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with his family at Emerald Isle, North Carolina.
Visitation for Chuck will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 PM, when a Knights of Columbus Prayer Service will be held, at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Ave., Findlay, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at the St. Michael Catholic Church Downtown Chapel, with Fr. Adam Hertzfeld officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, where full Military rites will be conferred by the Hancock County Veteran Memorial Squad.
