John E. Shepard, 67, of Findlay passed away at 7:50pm, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Ohio State University Wexner Center, in Columbus, Ohio. John was born to the late Colonel Ernest and Margaret (Berryman) Shepard in West Point, New York, on August 19, 1957, the youngest of 5 children. On June 30, 1990, he married Kim Gillette and she survives.
Also surviving John are his 2 children, a son and a daughter, a brother William (Diane) Shepard of Peoria, Arizona, 3 sisters, Joan (Mike) Vallone of Livonia, New York, Jane Sloan of Fort Myers, Florida and Patricia (Chandler) McClellan, Lake George, Colorado. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law David Sloan.
John retired from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department in 2021, serving his community for 30 years. While serving with the Sheriff’s Department, he was a member of the Hancock County Dive team and Honor Guard. John was also a member of the So-Han-Co fishing and gun club of Arlington and St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
John loved fishing and the only other thing he loved more was his family.
Visitation for family and friends will take place from 5:00-7:00pm, on Thursday June 12,
2025 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00am, Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Father
Melwyn Menezes, celebrant. Burial will follow at Bishop Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in John’s name to The James Fund for Life.
