John Olesky, 60, of Findlay, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023. He was born January 19, 1963 to the late Bernard F. and Catherine (Barbush) Olesky in Findlay. He married Cyndy Polen and she survives. He is also survived by brother Bernie Olesky.
John is also survived by his children; Sarah (Alef Pasaribu), Mary (Edward Benningfield), Jack (Destiny) Olesky, stepchildren Kerry (Tom Hansen), Joshua Gearing and Jason (Bailey) Gearing, four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Findlay High school and following graduation he became of member of the United States Navy, where he served his country for (4) years and continued to serve in the Navy reserves. In 1990 he started Findlay Telecom, LTD where he was owner/operator until he decided to return to his career in the United States Naval Reserves. While in the Navy, John earned the Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal, eventually becoming an E-8 Senior Chief Petty Officer.
John was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, brewing and drinking beer and traveling with his wife. The Navy afforded John several trips around the world, and where the Navy didn’t take him, he traveled with his wife. From running with the Bulls in Spain to drinking a Guinness at a pub in Dublin, Ireland, they covered many countries and experienced many adventures.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 with Deacon Mike Eier officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Graveside rites by the Hancock Veterans Memorial Squad.
In lieu of flowers, a memorials may be made to Ralph D. Cole Post # 3 of the American Legion, 120 West Front Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
