J. Miles Obituary

J David MilesEvery love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite. We are very saddened to share the news of the passing of Jon David Miles (Dave), 59 on December 20, 2021, at his home in Findlay, Ohio. He was born June 14, 1962, in Findlay, to Jim and Betty Miles. Dave is survived his parents, James B. Miles and wife Betty; his loving wife, Brenda (Babs), and the apple of his eye, his son Taylor. Additionally, he is survived by his brother William Tracy Miles (Giovanna) of Orlando, Florida; nieces and nephews Brandon (Dana) Jordan (Victoria) and Dana; Brother M. Steven Miles of Syracuse, New York; sister-in-law, Melinda Burgess of Greenville, SC (niece and nephew, Brittany & Brandon); brother-in-law Jeffrey Pitts (Ingrid) (nephew Payton) of Gainesville, Florida and brother-in-law, Michael Pitts of Columbia, SC. The sudden death of Dave has resulted in a tremendous outpouring of support from friends and extended family from New York to LA.Dave is preceded in death, by his loving in-laws, Ray and Eileen Pitts and brother-in-law Tod Burgess. The Boy Scouts of America played an influential role in Dave's formative years in Findlay, working as a staff member at Camp Berry during many summers in high school and college. Dave was named Order of the Arrow Section Chief in 1979 and in 1980 was tapped with the ranking of Eagle Scout (the highest attainable achievement in BSA). The bonds Dave made with his fellow scouts/camp staff flourished throughout his life. While at Findlay High, Dave was a committed member of Trojan Television, where he served as Director/Producer/Cameraman for high school events and live athletic competitions. The natural progression for Dave was to attend Ohio University and study Film and Television, but his time at Ohio University brought more that just education as Dave met his future wife in Jefferson cafeteria while he worked flipping burgers and she worked the deli line. They met their freshman year and attended parties, made lifelong friends and were proud members of the Crazy Cats. At graduation, their commitment to each other made it difficult to walk away so Brenda followed Dave to New York City. Dave worked as a cameraman for commercials and Brenda worked in advertising at J Walter Thompson. After a couple years in New York their adventure continued and landed them in Los Angeles. Dave worked at various studios including Fox, Disney, and Paramount. After a year in Hollywood, Dave and Brenda were invited to move into a duplex in Playa del Rey where a band of a dozen inseparable friends lived for over a decade. In November of 1988, Brenda, Dave, Melinda & her fiancé Tod, got married in a double wedding in Cleveland, Ohio. While in Los Angeles, Dave had several screenplays purchased and one teleplay produced on Fox Television, "Dead Silence". But the greatest accomplishment for this couple came in 2000 with the birth of their only son, Taylor. Then finally in 2005 they began a search for a family friendly town to raise their son and returned to Findlay. That year Dave traveled 7 countries working on a documentary for the CARE organization and continued picking up work as a documentarian while always making time to videotape and edit videos of all Taylor's sports. Their time in Findlay has brought to them the best neighbors and friends. Adding another successful chapter in this small family's life.Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at St Marks Church, 800 South Main St. Findlay, Ohio. A celebration and tribute to Dave's life will take place immediately following the visitation at St. Marks at approximately 2:00 PM.Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.kirkpatrickbehnke.com.
