Ilene L. (Metzger) Hoy

Ilene L. Hoy, 95, of Alvada, Ohio passed away at 4:23 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.

She was born on September 6, 1928 at home to the late Merritt B. and Lola A. (Thomas) Metzger. Ilene married C. Richard “Dick” Hoy on September 30, 1950. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Teresa Smiley and a brother, John Metzger.

Ilene is survived by her three sons; Eldon (Judy) Hoy of Alvada, Alan R. (Lorena) Hoy of Findlay and Harlan (Lisa) Hoy of Alvada. She was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Additionally, Ilene is survived by a brother, Mark (Drena) Metzger of Alvada.

Ilene was a graduate of Arcadia High School and following school she was a homemaker.

She was a life time member of West Independence Church. Ilene participated as a member in the Women of Worth (WOW) group at her church and also enjoyed the Sew/Quilt group at Gateway Church. She was part of the Vanlue Garden Club and the Hancock County Naturalist. For more than 20 years Ilene volunteered for the Red Cross. She spent many seasons serving on the Election Board.

For many years Ilene has had a garden and found joy in working in her lawn and flower beds. She and Dick went on several mission trips over the years and traveled to visit Europe, Australia and Japan. The best times in Ilene’s mind were family get-togethers and trips.

Visitation will be held for family and friends from 3:00- 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024 and also 10:00 to 11:00am on Saturday, at the West Independence Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the church with Rev. Ben Wallick and Rev. Dennis Gaertner officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery.
