Homero H. Ruiz, age 86, of Findlay passed away at 3:44 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. Homero was born on May 25, 1935 in Laredo, Texas to Angelita Hernandez and Antonio Rojas.Homero was married to Maria O. Avila on September 8, 1962. They were married for 58 years, until Maria preceded him in death on October 13, 2020. Surviving are their two children, Homero Jr. (Patti) Ruiz of Arizona and Melinda (Emilio) Hernandez of Findlay, Ohio. Also surviving are the joys of his life, Alicia (Patrick) Baker, Maricella (Michael) Kahle, Emilio and Nicandres Hernandez, Arianna and Analiah Ruiz; and great-grandchildren Abraham, Augustus, and Julianna Baker.Homero was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Esmerelda Ruiz; his brothers, Everardo Rojas and Santiago Ruiz; as well as an infant grandson, Sebastian Hernandez.After working for Jim Herrin Pontiac/Karl Kuhlman's Body Shop for over 30 years as an auto body technician, he retired. He continued to use his work experience to help his friends and family throughout the rest of his life.He was an active member of St. Michael's Parish as well as the Guadalupe Society. He displayed the virtues of St. Joseph in his unwavering vocations as a man, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His consistent display of humility, fortitude and piety, no matter what trials he faced, was an inspiration to many. He practiced true surrender to God's will and graciously lived out a life of "memento mori".He was a loving husband and caregiver to his wife. They relished spending time together by watching their favorite tv programs and movies. They enjoyed many trips to Arizona to visit their son, Homer, and his family. They often socialized with their compadres, playing cards and going dancing.Homero was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed nature. He loved gardening, golfing, fishing, hunting, and any activity that led him outside. He was also a talented craftsman; fixing things and making gifts for his family was something that brought him joy.He was a devoted servant to his family from the very beginning. Quitting school at a young age to provide, he quickly became the pillar and foundation of his loved ones. In more recent years, he would share many stories of growing up in Texas. His stories, as well as his talents and experiences were shared with his family by teaching his loved ones the secrets of his delicious pico, showing his grandsons how to hunt and fish, and sharing his techniques on making the perfect menudo."As a father from the start he showed us how important family was, telling us that he wanted to provide things to us that he didn't have growing up. The things we remember most are the weekly family trips to Riverside Park, just to spend time with each other, creating the best memories, riding the train and boat rides. I can still taste the taffy and candy apples." - Homero Ruiz Jr. and Melinda HernandezHis quiet legacy will live on through all of those who knew and loved him.Visitation for family and friends will be 2-6 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840 with the Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 617 West Main Cross Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840 with Fr. Adam Hertzfeld celebrant.
