Dorothy Jean (Smith) Thomas

Dorothy Jean (Smith) Thomas, 93, of Tiffin, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at The Willows at Tiffin. Dorothy was born on January 31, 1931 in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania to the late William Clarence and Verna Mae (Stormer) Smith. 

Dorothy married Charles Denver Thomas on December 9, 1950, who preceded her in death on August 4, 2022. They had eight children and enjoyed 71 years of marriage. Dorothy is survived by six children: Cynthia J. (Douglas) Colgate of Fostoria; Charles C. (Rebecca) Thomas of Richmond, Texas; Kim A. (Patti) Thomas of Findlay; Carlene R. Hitchcock of Tiffin; Candace L. (Johnny) Ange of Durham, North Carolina; and Jacque L. (Randy) Groves of Melmore; and Dorothy is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Lori (Dice) Thomas of Festus, Missouri, 24 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheree D. Patterson in 1997 and a son, Steven C. Thomas in 2021; and two brothers, Glendon and Robert Smith.

Dorothy took great pride in being an excellent homemaker, mother and grandmother, and also helped her husband in the family businesses, Thomas Cafeteria & Thomas Shoppe. She loved dancing with Chuck at cotillion dances and at weddings. She went on many an “old car trip” with Chuck. She loved her stories, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. She liked watching the news and updating others on current events. She loved hearing about and looking at pictures of all of her children and 3 generations of grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Hoffmann-Gottfried Mack Funeral Home, 236 South Washington St, Tiffin, Ohio, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, followed by the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Ruth Browne officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
