Dolores Mae (Carman) Hailey, 92 of rural Arcadia passed away at 2:39 a.m. on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center. Dolores was born on October 9, 1931 in Canton Ohio to Jack Carman and Helen Hull.
She married Dawson Dean Hailey on April 18, 1951 and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2020.
Dolores is survived by three sons; Mitchell D. of Findlay, Jeffrey D. (Alice) of Findlay, and Christopher D. (Ann) of Bloomdale, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ryan (Lane) Hailey, Jennifer (Tom) Minich, Stephanie (Jeb) Friend; step granddaughter Sara Spitler, and nine great grandchildren: Gabby, Olivia, Gavin, Brodie, Abiel, Fallon, Joanna, Dawson, and Jett; and special daughter-in-law Diane (Bill) Hudson. She is also survived by two sisters; Michael Carman (Sara and Luke), and Megan (Bill) Stine (Cody). She was preceded in death by son Timothy Dean Hailey, and sister Judy Dierdorf.
Dolores was a Canton Timken High School graduate and a longtime Findlay Art League member. As art was her life, after the morning paper with Sudoku and Crossword, she was up to her studio to enjoy the day. Tending towards figures to draw or paint, she also did many sculptures and was always playing with different media. Cartoons were one of them, with a number published including the editorial section of the Courier. She loved the controversy! Lettering Calligraphy for various signs throughout the years and eventually discovering gourds with Sharon Dawson which she loved because they could be done with so many types of media. We all have one of her unique roof slates to hang by the door, and there wasn't a Christmas that you didn't get a cool "mom creation". With a quick wit and clever mind she had few conversations without laughter and sitting around the kitchen table with family or friends would often turn into playing word games or in the unfortunate case for her family, Pictionary. Evenings were reading time and the Findlay Library was a constant turnstile. Dolores worked alongside Dean operating Hailey House Upholstery for 40 years and many customers enjoyed being added to her extensive yearly unique Christmas Card list that we all looked forward to.
Her sister said that when they were young she was always creating art, making art, giving gifts, smiling her lovely dimpled smile—giving, always quietly giving, as if giving were the only natural way to be.
