David L. Furiate, 88, of Findlay, Ohio passed away on March 4, 2023 at his residence. He was born to Frank and Ann (Niemiec) Furiate on June 26, 1934, in Malvern, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his first wife Ruth E. Furiate, and second wife, Judith P. Furiate; his parents Frank and Ann Furiate; his brothers Joseph and Frank Furiate; and his son-in-law, Samuel Insalaco.
David, tall and steadfast, and warm with a servant’s heart, dedicated his life to protecting others, and his country. David served in the US Army from 1956 to 1962, during which he received an award for the Berlin Command Outdoor Marksmanship Competition in 1957. Among other credentials, he received his pilot’s license from Kent State University in 1974, and was certified in anti-terrorism in 1977.
Most markedly, David was a devoted Highway State Trooper for 30 years, serving all across the state of Ohio. He served as point man for the riots at Kent State University, earning him the fitting title of “stone wall.” David also worked for S.E. Johnson as a chief security officer, and spent much of his time in the church, working in prison ministry, and attending as a deacon, usher, and providing security at Trinity Baptist Church. He had a life-long passion for winning souls to Christ, sharing the good news with anyone willing or unwilling to hear it.
David spent many of his later years in his home and spending time in nature with his wife, Judy Furiate. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tending to his home in Findlay, Ohio. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sister, Terri Nigolian (Dick Hadrill); his children, Mark (Michelle) Furiate, Timothy (Kimberly) Furiate, Julia Furiate, and Beth Insalaco, 12 loving grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The calling hours to honor David are at 10:30am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church, 7839 County Rd. 236, with funeral to follow immediately after with Herbert Koonce and Rev. Benjamin Jennings officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
