David A. Chortie passed away at home on November 9, 2021, at 4:21 am, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on January 6, 1945, to the late Arthur and Mariane (Monroe) Chortie. Surviving are his siblings Charles Chortie, Toledo, Richard Chortie, Findlay, and Alan Chortie, Tonawanda, New York.David married Celia Peeler (Martin) on September 2, 1967, and they had two children together, Jeffery Chortie, deceased, and Kathleen Chortie who survives. After many years of happiness, they divorced in 1996 and he remained close with the family. He found love again with Shirley (Lehman) Chortie, married October 10, 2014 and were looking forward to celebrating 25 years of happiness together. They enjoyed dancing, vacationing nearly every year in Hilton Head, the Corvette Club and spending time with family and friends. He leaves behind stepchildren, Mark Lehman, Tamara Hobbs, Andrea Hobbs and Shawnda Lehman.Over his career in sales, he worked at Findlay News, Buckeye News, Polk Directory and National Memorial Stone. He enjoyed working with people and helped many compassionately with their memorial stones.David's biggest joy was spending time with his wife, family, friends and pets. He was a confidante for many, gave freely of his time for anyone who needed help, cherished friendships and an example of blending families.Over the years he volunteered for Findlay Youth baseball, President of the Flag City Corvette Club, enjoyed playing cards, watching the Buckeyes and never missed his grandchildren's events. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Tyler Copus, Jacelyn Chortie, Jacob Chortie; step-grandchildren, Owen Hobbs, Ashton Knecht, Aubriann Moor, Cameron Clark (Lehman), Callie Hobbs and Emma Hobbs; great grandchildren, Penelope Chortie, Hayden Chortie, Ryley Parchment; and step great-grandchildren, Jackson Hobbs, Scarlett Leader, and Raelynn Knecht.The family would like to thank Dr. Laith Abushahin and his staff at The James, The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio and the Bridge Hospice Care (Findlay) staff for their kindness and care during his battle. In addition, the family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring support throughout his battle and after his passing. As with many of life challenges, he faced it with courage.Per David's request, there will be no visitation or services; he will be cremated, and his ashes will be buried with his son, Jeffery Chortie.
