JoAnn Bower, 81 of Findlay and formerly of Rawson, OH passed away at 8:36 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was born in Columbus, OH on December 16, 1937 to the late O.C. and Cleo (Green) Hursey.
On January 22, 1956 she married John R. Bower. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2015 along with a stillborn daughter, Cynthia Jo Bower, and two brothers, Robert N. Hursey and Lee M. Hursey.
Surviving JoAnn are her children, Barbara Ann (Edgar) Williams of Findlay, OH; Roger Lee (Amy) Bower of Jenera, OH; Elizabeth Mae (Randall) Gabel of Westerville, OH; and Bonnie Lou (John) Schimmoeller of Rawson, OH. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Crystal, Aaron, Jason, Jessica, Justin, Jerae, Ashley, Ryan, Lauren and Jeri, and seven great-grandchildren.
JoAnn graduated with the Bluffton High School Class of 1955. She was a 4-H advisor for Buckeye Farmers 4-H club. She was involved in square dance and bowling leagues. She was a member of CCL, Eastern Stars, and the New Hope United Methodist Church in Rawson, OH.
JoAnn and John purchased the hardware store in Rawson, Ohio in 1964. They changed the name to Bower Hardware and they owned and operated the store until 1979. She worked for Theatrical Accessories from 1975-1982. She also worked at Kroger in Findlay as a cake decorator in 1983 and 1984.
JoAnn was an accomplished quilter, seamstress, painter and crafter. She started her own business called Strawberry Hill Gifts. They traveled to several states selling homemade items at craft shows and festivals.
JoAnn loved wintering in Florida, gardening, playing video games, sewing, playing the piano and accordion, bowling, swimming, crocheting, her recliner and her grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay. A funeral will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ben Lowell officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Cemetery, in Eagle Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in JoAnn's name to New Hope United Methodist Church, 209 N Main Street, Rawson, OH 45881, or My Very Own Blanket, 407 W Main Street, Westerville, OH 43081.
