Donna J. Miller, 91, lost a long, very gallant battle with the devastating Alzheimer's disease on January 23, 2019 at Birchaven Long-term care facility in Findlay.
Born on October 16, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Raymond and Gertrude (Cooley) Dupler, Donna graduated from Toledo Waite High School, in 1944, at the age of 16 and went on to graduate from her beloved The Ohio State University with a BA in Education and a minor in Art in 1948. She started her 32+ year teaching career at Attica High School, Attica, Ohio. While living in Attica, Donna met and married Wilfred V. Miller becoming a farmer's wife, on August 25, 1951.
After the family moved to a farm north of Findlay in 1955, Donna taught at Van Buren High School. She began teaching at Liberty-Benton High School in the fall of 1957, where she stayed until her retirement in 1982. During her long teaching career, Donna taught many different subjects including History, Government, even Physical Education, but she finished her career teaching her most loved subject- Art, high school and elementary. Donna was very involved in her students' extra-curricular activities as Class Advisor. She coordinated and worked all home football and basketball concessions, directed the Junior Class plays, and oversaw the planning of the Junior-Senior Prom activities. After retirement from LB, Donna continued her career as an educator by volunteering for the Hancock Historical Museum's Fifth Grade Program as a docent in the Cabin. In her spare time she also worked at DeHaven's in Findlay where she became known as the "Bowlady", using her artistic abilities making special order bows especially during the holiday season.
Donna was honored as a William Jennings Scholar and a member of Delta-Kappa-Gamma, a select educators sorority. She was a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association and enjoyed attending OSU football games whenever possible and watched on TV when she couldn't attend. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Findlay, where she served several years on church council.
Donna is survived by a daughter Anna "Ann" (Thomas) Kuhlman; three grandchildren: Lukas Kuhlman of Findlay, Lane (Matt Mansbach) Kuhlman of Redmond, WA, and Lauren Kuhlman of Renton, WA; and three great grandchildren: Kurt Kuhlman of Lima, OH, Kylie Davis of Findlay and Karson Kuhlman of Findlay.
