William Richard Douglas Kerr, age 87 of Findlay, left us to meet his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 10:32 a.m. at the Bridge Hospice Care Center. Doug was born in Montreal, Canada on February 14, 1933 to the late Kathleen C. (Kay) and W.R. Douglas Kerr. He was educated at St. Leo's Academy and McGill University in Montreal, graduating as a Chemical Engineer in 1955. He was employed by Texaco Canada Ltd. as a process engineer, where he did design work, troubleshooting, learned and used computing skills.
According to Doug, "January 25, 1957 was the best day of my life when I met the prettiest girl in the world, Marilyn (daughter of the late Frances and Hugh Elder)". They married on May 3, 1958.
They were blessed with four sons, Douglas (Cathy), Kenneth (Missy), Ronald (Kathy) and Andrew (Angie) and eight grandchildren - Eric, Ian, Ted, Spencer, Kate, Libby, Alex and Sam.
In 1965, they emigrated to Findlay, OH and Doug went to work for Marathon Oil Company, doing technical computer work. They became US Citizens a few years later. Doug continued with Marathon's computer organization management and retired as a Division Manager in the Computer Organization in 1994.
In addition to his engineering work with Marathon, Doug was a volunteer, serving on and chairing many community and industry groups. These included, St. Michael the Archangel Parish Council for 6 years, teaching CCD 3 years, Communion Distributor, Lector and a member of the Bereavement Committee for several years.
Doug served several years on the National Petroleum Refiner's Association Computer Committee. He was a member of the United States Power Squadrons, where he held many local, district, and national offices culminating in being National Treasurer for 3 years (2000-2002 inclusive) and was Treasurer of USPS Education Fund. Years ago, Doug was also active with Blanchard Valley Hospital to help choose a new computer system, and with younger people as an unofficial Assistant Scout Master, Boys Scouts of America Troop 319, and Junior Achievement Board, Findlay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road with Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink celebrant.
A private burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic there will be no visitation. Masks are required and social distancing should be observed whenever possible while attending the Mass.
