Maria Oralia Ruiz
Obituary Service Details Condolences

Maria Oralia Ruiz, age 79 of Findlay, passed away at 6:12 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. She was affectionately called "Lala" or "Lali" by many. Maria was born on April 7, 1941 in Mission, Texas to Guadalupe and Josefina (Gonzalez) Avila. Maria was married to Homero H. Ruiz on September 8, 1962. They had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Homer survives, along with their children, Homer (Patti) Ruiz of Arizona and Melinda (Emilio) Hernandez of Findlay, Ohio; sisters Melda Schaefer, Hilda Hernandez, and Linda Donahue; and a brother, Homer Hernandez. Also surviving are the lights of her life, her grandchildren: Alicia (Patrick) Baker, Maricella (Michael) Kahle, Emilio Hernandez, Nicandres Hernandez, Arianna Ruiz, and Analiah Ruiz; and great grandchildren Abraham, Augustus, and Julianna Baker. Maria was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Esmerelda Ruiz; a grandson, Sebastian Hernandez; and a brother Jose Avila. Maria retired from Findlay City Schools, where she worked as a Teacher's Aide for over 30 years. She loved her job and all of the children she worked with. She was an active member at St. Michael Parish and a member of the Guadalupe Society. Her unwavering faith and devotion to God is what gave her the strength up until her last moments. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband Homero. They loved attending dances, traveling, family get togethers, their Kewpee dates, and game nights. Maria was a talented cook and handed down many recipes and the joy of cooking to her family. Her specialty was home made tortillas, bunuelos, mexican rice and pico de gallo. Her greatest joy was attending and supporting her grandchildren in anything they did. All the concerts, sporting events, and dance recitals she attended were just some of the many ways she showed her love and support. She would spend her extra time visiting all of her babies, no matter how old they were. It was also important to her to stay in touch with family, including her siblings. She was known to give care packages and little surprises every chance she got. She was very loving and had a listening ear and helping hand to those in need. She never forgot a birthday, holiday or special occasion. Her devotion to her family was unending and they will all cherish and feel her love forever. Visitation for friends and family of Maria will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 2-6:00 p.m. at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay.
