Vernon Lee Waaland, age 83 of Findlay, passed away at 1:36 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Vern was born on September 8, 1936 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Ervin F. and Ellen A. (Miles) Waaland.
Vern was married to his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Ann Federici, on March 13, 1955. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together before she passed on May 7, 2015. Vern is survived by two children: Wendy Myers of Findlay, OH and Steven (Lisa) Waaland of Manistee, MI; grandchildren: Andrew Waaland of Michigan, Matthew Waaland of Connecticut, Rachel Myers of Findlay, and Andrea Newton of Findlay; and three great grandchildren: Nikolai, Nadia and Natahlya.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Loren "Ducky" Waaland, Donald Waaland, Robert Waaland, and Janice Waaland Stahl.
Vern and his wife Phyllis owned and operated Waaland's Flowers in Findlay for over 50 years until it's closing in 2006.
Vern was a 60 year member of the B.P.O.E. #75 where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1968-1969. He was also a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Findlay Optimist Club.
He and his wife Phyllis were very active in the Sunday Night Bowling League at Sportsman's Lanes for many years. In his younger years Vern was a very talented fast pitch softball player. Vern was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Browns.
In his spare time he enjoyed watching "Westerns" and Humphrey Bogart movies.
Vern was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio. A funeral will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Weatherman officiating. A private burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay.
