Mary Isabel "Becky" DeWitt Statler, age 95 of Katy, Texas and formerly of Zanesville, OH; Willoughby, OH; and Findlay, OH, passed away at 10:20 pm on July 3, 2019 at Spanish Meadows Nursing and Rehab of Katy, TX. Mary Isabel was born on July 25, 1923 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Gale Benjamin and Isabel (Mahon) DeWitt.
Mary Isabel was married to Ellsworth Sheldon Statler on May 10, 1944. They enjoyed nearly 55 years of marriage before his passing on March 8, 1999. Surviving are their two children: Stephen Woodruff Statler of Oakland, California and Elizabeth Anne (Gary) Maddock of Katy, Texas; grandchildren: William Statler (Diana) Maddock of Houston, Texas and Anne Meredith Maddock (Justin) Mikes of Conifer, Colorado; and a great granddaughter, Isabel Grace Mikes of Conifer, Colorado.
Mary Isabel was a graduate of Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Bowling Green State University, and a Master of Education Degree from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana. She loved teaching elementary children and taught until she was 70, retiring in 1993. She served the previous 22 years teaching in the Tri-Valley Schools, Muskingum County, Ohio, after teaching in the Mentor Schools of Lake County, Ohio; the Findlay City Schools of Hancock County, Ohio; Maumee City Schools of Lucas County, Ohio; Arlington Local Schools of Hancock County, Ohio; and the Old Fort Local Schools of Seneca County, Ohio with a total of more than 36 years.
Mary Isabel was a member of Katy United Methodist Church, Katy, Texas; Life Member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association; Associate Member of the Author's Club, Zanesville, Ohio; and a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
Mary Isabel was an avid reader, excellent seamstress, and loved watching football and basketball, especially The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 am on July 23, 2019 at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, preceded by a brief visitation at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, Ohio.
Mary Isabel was a dog lover and requested any memorials be made to your local animal shelter or rescue organization.
