Thomas W. Darnall, 99, of Findlay, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 surrounded by family at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay, Ohio. On December 23, 1946, he married Phyllis Rarick at Urbana, Illinois. Together, they raised two daughters and five sons and celebrated 51 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on their anniversary on December 23, 1997. He later married Kathryn Kiper at Bloomington, Illinois on September 18, 1999 and celebrated over 19 years of marriage before her passing in January 2018. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John Darnall, his sister, Elizabeth Wink, and his infant daughter Patricia Anne Darnall. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Darnall, Monte Vista, Colorado; and five sons, Stephen (Linda) Darnall, Roger (Janet) Darnall, James (Liz) Darnall; all in Findlay, Ohio; and Thomas (Katie) Darnall, Columbus, Ohio, and Mark (Nancy) Darnall, Oak Park, Illinois. He is survived by step-daughters Janis (Joe) Berry, Bloomington, Illinois, and Mary (Roger) Lakin, Dunlap, Illinois; and step-son Stephen (Shirley) Kiper. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, & 24 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephews with whom he was like an older brother - Richard Wink, Raymond Wink and Robert Wink. Tom enjoyed vacationing by the water, fishing and boating. He was an avid golfer and bowler. His hobbies included vegetable gardening, playing the keyboards, and painting. His favorite sport was baseball and his favorite team was the New York Yankees, which didn't play well in Chicago Cubs territory in Illinois where he grew up. He was born on August 3, 1919 in Fairbury, Illinois to John M. and Mattie (Walters) Darnall, both deceased. He later moved to Bloomington, Illinois and graduated in 1937 from Bloomington High School, and in 1942 from Illinois State University, where he excelled in varsity baseball and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 1943 - 1946 as an instrument flying instructor. He graduated from the Saint Louis School of Medicine in 1950 and completed his medical internship at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis in 1951. He and his wife, Phyllis, then moved to Findlay, Ohio where he established a general medical practice and raised his family, with a brief interlude (1958 - 1961) when he completed his dermatology residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan. In 1961, he practiced dermatology in Findlay, Ohio and continued his practice in Kendallville, Indiana until 1987. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Findlay, Ohio and in Kendallville, Indiana serving as an Elder, Trustee and Deacon. He also served as Past President Hancock County (OH) Medical Society, Past president Blanchard Valley Hospital, (Findlay, OH) Medical Staff, Past president Hancock County (OH) Tuberculosis Association, and served on the Noble County, Indiana Board of Health. Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 4-6:00 p.m. at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
