Walter E. Bishop, age 98 of Findlay, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:29 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Walter was born on November 22, 1920 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Ray and Florence E. (Barber) Bishop.
Walter married Helen O. Kimmel on January 11, 1942. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2010. Surviving are his children, Linda (William) Tong of Alvada, OH, Reed (Liz) Bishop of Sylvania, OH and Betsy (Jack) Moyer of Findlay, OH; nine grandchildren: Lee Ann (Denny) Swick, Brock (Amy) Tong, Brooke (Jamie) Pratt, Joel Bishop, Brian (Ashley) Bishop, Rachel (Ian) McKelvey, Molly Moyer, Jesse Moyer (Kyle Recker), and Abbey (Jon) White; two step-grandchildren, Ainsley (Brandon) Swartz and Alex Pidcock; six great grandchildren, Kayla and Oliver Tong, Kennedy, Reagan and Lincoln Pratt, and Mesa Swick. Walter was the second of 9 children. He is survived by a sister, Helen Brinkman, and a brother, Gerald Bishop. He was preceded in death by siblings Ralph, Marion, Gene, Claire, Edna May, and Mary Jane.
Walter retired from Ford Motor Company, the Lima Engine Plant, in 2002 after 30 years of service. Before that he worked for DIFCO, Lima Locomotive, and also was an appliance tech for Lyon Appliance and Frigidaire appliances. Walter was a skilled auto mechanic and was known as a "Mr. Fix-it".
Walter was involved with the Youth Group at St. Paul's Methodist Church for several years. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He attended College First Church of God.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mills, Molly Moyer, Rick Davis, Brad and Kathy Roynon, Pastor Bill Reist, Marvin Trexler, Ron and Roi Ann Daniels, neighbors and friends of Mound Park, Sunrise Assisted Living, and Blanchard Valley Hospital for the care he received in his later years.
There will be a graveside service held on December 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knollcrest Gardens Chapel 18085 OH 12 outside of Arcadia.
Memorials may be made in Walter's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
