Melvin D. Householder, 90 of Findlay, passed away peacefully in the home he built for his family 62 years ago, at 5:44 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Melvin was born on June 25, 1929 in Fostoria, Ohio to Lawrence and Verna (Tyson) Householder. He married Eleanor M. Shultz on September 29, 1951 and she survives. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Melvin is survived by his children, Debera Luongo of Stevensville, MI, Bruce (Tina) Householder of Fostoria, OH, Janie (Dennis) Wymer of Berea, OH, Karen (Brad) Thompson of Austin, TX, John (Julie) Householder of Kokomo, IN, and Robert (Robin) Householder of Findlay, OH; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. Mel is also survived by a brother, Walter (Norma) Householder of Findlay, OH. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Ila Banbury, Jean Lee and Joesephene Clark and brothers Kermit Householder, Richard Householder, Robert Householder, Lawrence Householder, his twin brother Mervin Householder, a son-in-law Frank Luongo, and one great grandchild. Melvin was in the US Navy. He retired from working at Eastman Kodak. He was a member of the DAV and the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 957. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay. He was active in the parish, served on the council, was involved with many ministries, sang in the funeral and Spanish choirs. He was the coordinator of the St. Michael's Bereavement Ministry for more than 20 years. Melvin was a sportsman and a fan of Ohio State, Findlay Oilers, Cleveland Indians, the Browns and the Cavaliers. He enjoyed drawing and writing poetry. He liked working with wood and his property is now listed as a wild life preserve. He served as president of the Bloomdale Alumni Association for eight years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Visitation will be held at 3-7:00 p.m on Friday, September 6, 2019 at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio, with the Rosary beginning at 6:45 p.m. There will also be a visitation from 10-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, Ohio with Fr. Mike Zacharias celebrant.
