John Edward Gillette, Sr., 89 of Findlay, passed away at 2:52 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay, Ohio. He was born on November 29, 1929 in Tipp City, Ohio to the late Jacob Edward and Pearl (Davis) Gillette. On March 7, 1952 he married Norma June Crawford in Mt. Cory, Ohio. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2017.
They were parents to five children: John E. (Judy) Gillette, Jr. of Mt. Cory; Donna L. (Roger) Treece of Findlay; Jim M. (Patty) Gillette of Lafayette, Indiana; Melanie C. (Donald) Newcomer of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and Kim D. (John) Shepard of Findlay, all of whom survive. He was very proud of his family including the eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren remaining. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Gillette, and a sister, Marion Pippenger.
John graduated from Randolf High School in Dayton, Ohio. He proudly served his country from 1950 to 1955 in the U.S. Army in Alaska, Texas and Japan. He participated in the Flag City Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2016.
He was employed with United Trucking Service and the Hancock County Sheriff's office as a corrections officer.
John was a member of the Salem Cass United Methodist Church. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and working in his yard. Most importantly, he loved his family very much.

A graveside service will be held at Bishop Cemetery in Eagle Township, Hancock County, on August 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Ruth Whitaker will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
