Barbara A. Guagenti, formerly of Lima, 86, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, in Findlay, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 3, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Edward J. and Gertrude (Goebel) Rothwell, who preceded her in death. Shortly after her birth, she moved to Lima, Ohio, and was raised by her loving uncle and aunt, Elmer "Bud" and Mary Calista (Goebel) Barnett, whom she called "Mom" and "Dad." Both also preceded her in death.
On Dec. 29, 1951, she married Joseph J. "Skinney" Guagenti, who preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2007. Her grandson, Brian Guagenti, also preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2015.
Mrs. Guagenti worked at Montgomery Ward catalogue and retired from General Dynamics. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Rose Catholic High School in Lima. She loved playing the organ during Mass. She was a charter member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Lima, where she volunteered for the funeral dinners for many years. She moved to Findlay in 2013 and joined St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
"Barb," as many of her friends and family called her, adored her large and ever-growing family. She was always young at heart and enjoyed life thoroughly. She was also known as mom to more than her children especially her sons and daughters in law. Grandma was her most important name making sure she knew what all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren were up to in their lives. Grandma was proud to attend their numerous activities. She loved greatly, and was greatly loved.
Survivors include eight children: Joseph E (Jennifer), Mt. Gilead, Ohio; Jeffrey P. (Jane), Westerville, Ohio; George G. (Pat), Springfield, Va.; Mary C. (John) Walsh, Findlay; John M. (Tonnie), Chillicothe, Ohio; Judy A. (Mike) Spieldenner, Findlay; Toni L. Guagenti, Virginia Beach, Va.; Angela M. Guagenti, Powell, Ohio; 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Edward and Richard Rothwell, and one sister, Mary Talbot.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial begining at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Fr. Kent Kaufman, celebrant.
Burial will be at Gethsemani Cemetery.
